5 Types of Training Every Employee Needs - Get to Know Them

Hiring staff is not enough. If you want your business to succeed, you must develop your workforce.

5 Types of Training Every Employee Needs

By training your staff, you create a motivated, confident and satisfied team. You'll see the impact this will have on your business, your staff's effectiveness, and much more.

Employee training can take many forms. It can be internal or external, online or in-person, so it can be difficult to know where to start. To help you choose, here are five types of training that can inspire you and your employees.

1- Orientation

It's common to hold some sort of orientation or induction process for new employees. Most of the time, this involves a tour and a brief introduction to the team. However, you should use this early opportunity to prepare your new employees.

Informing a new employee about the structure and principles of your company is only the beginning. You should go further and explain the company's values, mission, and vision. If you also take the time to train your new employee on administrative tasks, you reduce the likelihood of mistakes being made later on.

Training can be provided by a manager, team leader, or human resources representative. Induction can also include assigning "buddies" to new employees. This person shows the new employee what to do, helps him or her adapt to the company culture, and assists with daily tasks.

2- Quality of training

Depending on the nature of your business, you may need to follow certain strict procedures. To maintain your reputation, your employees must be trained in these procedures.

Many companies have accredited themselves to ISO standards to prove that they are the best. However, to maintain these accreditations, companies must consistently demonstrate that they are keeping the ISO standards up to date. A common requirement is staff understanding or training.

Depending on the ISO standard, this can be done in a variety of ways. Employees can watch online training videos, take quizzes or attend a presentation.

3- First aid qualifications

Every workplace needs a first aid kit and a person in charge of it. The need for trained first aiders depends on the type of workplace, the nature of the work, and the size of your business.

If you decide to add a dedicated first aider to your team, there are several courses to choose from. To find out which one is right for your business, check out HSE's helpful guide.

The safety of your employees and customers should not depend solely on your first aider, however. Make sure you have accident insurance and keep your risk assessments up to date.

4- Building a team

The saying goes, "Teamwork is a dream." Making sure your employees work well together can make all the difference to your business.

For most of us, team building evokes unpleasant tasks designed to make us feel uncomfortable. But it doesn't have to be that way. Have fun with a treasure hunt, a quiz, or even an escape room!

You can outsource this training or organize it yourself. Team building excursions are another great way to build team spirit and morale, all while having fun!

5- Qualification Workshops

There are countless conferences, training days, and workshops to choose from. These events can be held online or in person, so there is something for everyone.

These types of workshops can cover different skills, both technical and practical. Perhaps you use a specific technology or software in your business, so appropriate training is needed. Or you may be looking for the latest marketing tips. Whatever extra help your employee needs, there is definitely a workshop for them.

Events like these are great for fostering employee growth and confidence. Plus, employee learning is encouraged, which benefits your company.

Happy employees, happy company

While many employee training can be costly, the results are worth it. If you invest time and money in your employees, they will recognize it and feel valued. This will encourage them to
